Opening on 1st March - Holy Ghost x Protein presents SIX SIX SIX.

The concept behind this show is simple but will no doubt result in a complex insight into the methodology of those involved. We gave six photographers (James Pearson-Howes, Max Knight, Jake Dow-Smith, Jess Gough, Paul Phung & Lewis Chaplin) a 36-exposure roll of 35mm film which they have 6 days to shoot. Each film is then returned back to the Holy Ghost team who will develop the films on their behalf with the resulting pictures being exhibited for 6 days. There will be no editing, no selection process and no chance for the artist to view their work prior to the exhibition. The only limitation is that they must choose to shoot in either landscape or portrait.Following on thematically from our last open submissions show, the objective is to question the standard format of exhibiting photography. The idea is to examine and question the role of the curator, both in the traditional sense and in regards to the self-curation by the artists themselves. The outcome aims to capture a process rather than a finished product and is set to offer a unique insight into the style, thought process and character of the featured photographers.

Check out Amy Lombard’s Kickstarter. She’s trying to raise money to get her amazing Ikea photos published. Take a look and DONATE!

“I’ve spent the last year traveling to different IKEA’s in the United States. I’ve thought long and hard about how I ultimately saw the work playing out. It became very clear to me that this work was meant to function by itself in book form.

The book will be fairly large in size, roughly 8.5 x 11. It will consist of about 50-60 photographs made in the last year from different IKEA’s across the United States — it will be printed offset in Brooklyn and we’ll have particular care for the kind of paper since it’s a very selective collection of pictures.
